Do you know what rubbing alcohol is? You probably have a bottle of the liquid at home. Rubbing alcohol is either isopropyl alcohol or ethanol-based liquid which is not drinkable. The liquid is commonly used as a powerful antiseptic, but it also has industry and household uses.
Besides being an antiseptic and disinfectant, here are other interesting uses of rubbing alcohol:
1. Freshens Up Your Sneakers
Odor coming from your sneakers and not even the washing machine helps? Try rubbing alcohol – simply dab the inside of your sneakers with a cotton pad or spray it in your shoes and leave them to dry overnight, preferably outside. They should be as good as new in the morning!
2. Eliminates Cold Sores
Rub a bit of the liquid on your cold sores to remove them without much effort.
3. Helps with Mosquito Bites
Going on a field trip or camping for the weekend and you don’t know what to do against the nagging mosquitoes? Take some rubbing alcohol with you and dab a bit on the affected area as soon as you’re bitten.
4. Helps You Remove Ticks
If you notice a tick burrowed in your skin, don’t reach for the tweezers yet. Keep them close by hand but dab a bit of rubbing alcohol on the affected area – the tick should emerge from the site soon and you can easily get it with your tweezers.
5. Treats Sore Muscles
Are your muscles sore after a workout? Massage them with a bit of the liquid and the pain should go away.
6. Removes Stubborn Stains
You don’t need to throw away your favorite shirt just because stains won’t come off it. Just mix a part of rubbing alcohol with two parts of water and spray the mixture on the stain. Leave it to soak for an hour or two and gives the piece of clothing a wash – it should come out as good as new!
7. Eliminates the Smell of Garlic
If your hands reek of garlic after lunch, rubbing a bit of the liquid on them should help remove the smell.
8. Removes Nail Polish
Instead of using acetone to remove polish from your nails, why not give rubbing alcohol a try? It’s far safer and free or chemicals which can ruin your nails and even the skin on your hands.
9. Hand Sanitizer
Instead of those store-bought hand sanitizers that are nothing more but a combination of chemicals, rub a bit of rubbing alcohol a few times per day to disinfect and keep them clean.
10. Emergency Deodorant
Forgot to take deodorant with you? Buy a bottle of rubbing alcohol at the pharmacy and your favorite essential oil, then add 15 drops of the oil in a spray bottle of rubbing alcohol. Dab this mixture on your underarms and voila! No body odor! Avoid using it after shaving, however, because it can irritate your skin.
11. Destroys Bedbugs
Take a spray bottle and fill it with rubbing alcohol, then spray it all over your mattress and bed. Rubbing alcohol is an effective and simple solution for bedbugs and will keep your mattress cleaner than ever.
12. Dissolves Windshield Frost
Don’t you just hate scraping the frost off your car’s windshield in the winter? Yeah, we hate it too. But, did you know that the solution to this problem has actually been far simpler than anyone could imagine? Spray some rubbing alcohol on your windshield and the frost will quickly go away!
13. Fix Your Broken Eyeshadow
How many times have you broken your eyeshadow? Simply getting a new one isn’t that simple as all the good brands are expensive. Fortunately, rubbing alcohol can help you fix your broken eyeshadow and use it just like before.

14. Cleans Your Eyeglasses Perfectly
If you want to keep your glasses spotless, spray a bit of the liquid on them and wipe with a soft cloth. No more scrapes and smudges!
