Being overweight is obese is a strain on your life, and we’re not talking about the obvious excess of weight only. In fact, obesity is one of the leading causes for numerous health problems in the world.
It is usually brought on by lack of physical activity and a poor diet as well as stress and unhealthy sleeping habits. And yes, sometimes genetics are to blame as well.
If you want to get rid of your excess pounds, no matter if its 10, 15 or more, you need to be consistent and ready for a few sacrifices along the way.
Here are 6 tried methods which can help you lose a ton of weight:
1. Swap Soda for Water
Sodas and carbonated drinks in general are sure to ruin your health and make you obese. They contain a LOT of added sugar and will disrupt your metabolism and digestion, effectively resulting in many health problems including obesity. This includes the popular zero drinks which are not a calorie-free version and have been related to serious problems.
If you want to lose weight, you should swap soda for water. Water will control your metabolism and regulate your cravings while improving the function of your organs. If you think plain water’s boring – you can add a bit of lemon or grapefruit juice to it to make it taste better.
When trying to lose weight, you’ll need to ditch fast and processed food and pay more attention to what you eat for lunch. Salads are a great substitute for lunch – they’re almost calorie-free and very satiating as well. Furthermore, the vegetable used in them will fill your body with fiber, vitamins, and minerals which will keep everything in your body intact.
Be careful with the dressings! Most commercial dressings have more calories than a full lunch meal, so either eat your salad plain with some salt, olive oil or vinegar or make an avocado dressing.
3. 20 Minutes of Daily Physical Activity
Physical activity is key for losing weight – if you don’t move, your body won’t be able to burn calories. If you (like most of us) lead a generally sedentary lifestyle, start exercising for about 20 minutes per day. It’s not so hard – once you try it, it will soon become a part of your lifestyle.
It doesn’t have to be the gym – you can run, walk, lift weights at home or do some yoga or kickboxing. Let’s be real – we all have 20 minutes to spare for exercise. Ditch the car and start walking to work, and you’ve already spent 10 minutes or more!
4. Fruit and Vegetable Snacks
Instead of stuffing yourself with chips and other unhealthy snacks, stock up on fruits and veggies and keep them in your fridge. Chop all of them up and you’ll have easy access to healthy snacks that won’t add to your weight. You can also make tasty salads that you can eat for lunch instead of that hefty steak.
5. Healthy Portions
Controlling your portions is another important factor for losing weight. Follow these guidelines – complex carbs should fit in a cupped hand; protein servings should fit in your palm; a veggie serving should be the size of your fist, and a fat serving should be the size of your thumb.
Men need to eat 2 servings of each, while women should stick to a serving of each category. Children should have ½ or 1 ½ servings from each category depending on their appetite.
6. Be Kind to Yourself
Don’t be too hard on yourself – we all have a voice in our head that’s too judgmental and harsh. However, if you want to lose weight, you have to stay positive. Negativity won’t help you achieve great results – just focus on loving yourself and you’ll see the results soon.
